FIS - International Ski Federation

"The discussion on the question of the interference in nature and landscape habitats by the sport of skiing – a long time controversial subject – has become more realistic. The social and economic meaning, which the sport of skiing has for the mountain regions is as equally included in this assessment, as the recognition that the sport of skiing can only be lastingly ensured when it is in unison with nature. The International Ski Federation greets the initiative, grasped by the foundation "pro natura – pro ski" for the revalorization of ski areas."

EU-EMAS Helpdesk

"Eco-audit in skiing areas is, amongst others, based on the European instrument EMAS, a toolkit for better environmental performance and minimization of negative environmental impacts. By means of the environmental report ("environmental statement") EMAS leads to better communication among stakeholders, which can enhance marketing adavantages regarding environmentally conscious clients. Furthermore EMAS aims at establishing legal security for skiing operators. The appliaction of the "auditing in skiing areas" in combination with EMAS prepares winter tourism destinations for future challenges."
